Moin Minitowerman!
BalcoesThis walk begins
in Ribeiro Frio and has as destination the fabulous Balcões’
belvedere, after a short but grandeur walk between the typical
greenery of Madeira’s forest.From this belvedere it’s
possible to contemplate the many peaks of Madeira Island, from which
stands out the highest: Pico Ruivo (1861m) and Pico do Areeiro
(1817m). Pico do Gato, Pico das Torres and the well-known
Penhad’Águia also constitutes part of this breathtaking
scenery. This place it’s also ideal to bird watching, since
there is a huge variety that nicely greets visitors of this
belvedere. Between this nice little creatures stands out the
Firecrest, the Chaffinch, the Grey Wagtails, Blackbirds, Robins,
Buzzards or the very rare Madeira’s long-toed pigeon. The
way back is made through the same way but don’t think that you saw
everything yet. One of peculiarities of the Madeira’s levadas is
that each time you visit, there’s always new findings, experiences
and sensations that will make this activity unique. BUS:56,
103, 138There are several very good linear
walks where there are bus connections either end - Ribeiro Frio to
Portela or Santo da Serra is one (not sure if it's still OK after the
floods), plus the levadas between Monte, Camacha
and Santo da Serra. If you're confident independent walkers Sunflower
'Landscapes of Madeira'
is a good investment, though it's also worth getting an up-to-date
bus timetable from the tourist office.Levada do Rei
-Also known as Kings LevadaThis is undoubtedly one of the
levadas you don’t want to miss. A magnificent trail of the
Madeira’s Laurissilva forest where you can enjoy the unique
vegetation of this UNESCO natural heritage. The first part of
the trail consists of a mixture of endemic and introduced vegetation
after the discovery of the island. You can see various perspectives
of the village at a distance. In the second part, the trail
penetrates into the interior of the island, that stills remains the
same since before its discovery, more than five centuries ago. In
this path you find the natural flora and fauna of Madeira, which
include laurel, heather, chaffinch, among many, many others. If
you think you reach the end of the levada, keep walking, explore the
forest and discover the exhilaration beauty it still has to
offer. This is one of the most beautiful trails of Madeira
BUS:103, 138What about a bus up to Monte or Babosas (reasonably frequent) and
a walk along Levada do Tornos? You could catch a bus back to Funchal
from Romeiros (sorry, don't know times or numbers) if you don't want
to walk very far, or you could walk all the way back to Funchal. If
you go to the Horarios do Funchal kiosk by the cable car station on
the seafront you could get all the bus times.FUNCHAL
Other than the Piornais the only one I know of in the city itself
is the lower end of the Levada do Curral, which runs through the Sao
Martinho area and also comes out near the stadium (or used to - I
last walked it over ten years ago and quite a lot of it had
disappeared under roads then). If you go out to Monte (easy by bus or
cable-car) it's a short walk to both the Levada dos Tornos and the
Levada do Bom Sucesso. These are possibly more adventurous depending
on the type of walking you are used to - e.g. some drops off the
levadas, climbs up or steep paths downwards, and maybe clambering
over fallen trees. -
Hallo!
Wir sind leider nur die 2. Woche dabei.
